This program enables selected and qualified Secondary school students' travel to the United States to study at an accredited public or private high school and live with an American host family or at an accredited boarding school. The academic year program is an exchange visit for one academic year in an accredited high school in the USA while the Semester abroad program is for the duration of 5 to 6 months in the academic calendar year.
Application is open to bonafide international students currently enrolled in secondary (high school)
programs in their home countries, and who will be available for up to 6 months for the semester abroad
program and one academic year for the academic year program. The student must not have completed High School
at the time of application. These students are screened for appropriate English Language fluency, ability to function
in a classroom environment and motivation to get maximum benefit from the program by living and experiencing an American lifestyle.
Applicants are to choose a program prior to the interview, complete their application process with the country representative
and will be interviewed specifically for participation in the program.
Participants must be:
* between the ages of 15-to-18-and-sixth-months by the first day of school;
* students that have not finished more than 11 years of primary and secondary school;
* students not presently in kindergarten;
* students that have not previously participated in a secondary school student academic year or semester exchange program or attended school in the United States in either relevant visa status
Full service application to participate in the Academic Year /Semester Abroad Program includes;
** Enrollment and placement in suitable High Schools in the USA
** Visa documents processing necessary for securing a J-1 or F-1 visa
** International Student support throughout the duration of the program. Participants are covered by comprehensive medical insurance while in the United States.
** Mandatory program application package to be completed with the local representative at a fee.
** Mandatory pre-selection orientation seminar session and interview with representative office in the participant's home country.
** Airport "meet & greet" service for group arrivals. Transportation can be arranged nominally for a fee.
** Accommodation arrangements for the duration of the student's stay.
Students may take part in school activities, including after school sports programs. The school district and the state office
in charge of deciding athletic eligibility must approve the exchange student's participation. Students may not work part-time or full-time jobs.
However, they may accept occasional work, like yard work or baby-sitting. Exchange students are not allowed to live with relatives.
